Force SC Storms Back Late to Stun Steel City FC in Home Debut

CLEVELAND — Force SC’s USL W League home opener looked like it might get away early Sunday night at Krenzler Field. Instead, it became a showcase of patience, pressure and late-game resolve.

After falling behind by two goals inside the opening 15 minutes, Force SC clawed its way back in the second half and completed a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Steel City FC on May 31, using three unanswered goals to turn a difficult start into a memorable home result.

Steel City FC struck first almost immediately, capitalizing on early pressure from a dangerous set-piece sequence. After Coco Dorfman’s effort deflected off the wall and the ball stayed alive in the area, Sydney Chantos reacted quickly to the loose chance and calmly put Steel City ahead inside the first five minutes.

The visitors doubled the advantage less than 10 minutes later. Samantha Miller helped initiate the move with a turn and flick into Abigail Stager, who slowed play near the top of the box before slipping a ball into Chantos. The Steel City attacker finished again, slotting her second goal of the match into the bottom corner to give the visitors a 2-0 lead before Force SC had fully settled into the night.

From there, the match began to shift. Force SC grew into possession, pressed higher and asked more frequent questions of Steel City goalkeeper Ruby Morgan, who turned in a strong performance despite the final score. Morgan finished with 10 saves, including several key stops that helped Steel City carry its two-goal lead into halftime.

The breakthrough for Force SC came in the 66th minute. After Sophia Sindelar helped spring the counter with a curling pass, Force earned a penalty, and Antonio converted from the spot, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and injecting life back into the home side.

The goal changed the temperature of the match. Steel City still had the lead, but Force SC began to play with more urgency and width, stretching the field and forcing the visitors to defend deeper as the second half wore on. What had started as a controlled Steel City lead became a tense closing stretch, with Force SC pushing numbers forward in search of an equalizer.

That equalizer finally arrived in stoppage time. In the 90+1’, Chloe Hughes delivered one of the defining moments of the match, bending a shot from the right edge of the box that lifted over Morgan and tucked into the far corner. After spending much of the night chasing the game, Force SC had pulled level.

The comeback was not finished.

Just two minutes later, Force SC struck again on the counter. Lilly Boebel finished the move in the 90+3’, driving a close-range effort high toward the near post to complete the turnaround and send the home side into a frenzy of celebration.

For Steel City, the result was a difficult one to absorb after such a sharp opening spell. Chantos’ early brace put the visitors in position to take points on the road, and Morgan’s work in goal kept the match within reach deep into the second half. But Force SC’s pressure eventually broke through, with the home side producing three high-quality finishes after halftime.

For Force SC, the 3-2 win was more than just a home-opening result. It was a response. After conceding twice early, the group kept the match within reach, trusted its attacking chances and found enough late quality to turn a two-goal deficit into three points.

On a night that began with Steel City in control, Force SC left Krenzler Field with the final word.
